Safari 4.03 not properly displaying ...

When I go to view a page of text, or open a text file in Safari 4.03, all I see are what appear to be random characters scattered over the page. I'm assuming that Safari is having a problem of some kind with these files, but don't seem to be able to clear it up. I'm not trying to download the files, merely view them.
